Dear Angry Orange Resident,

I am sorry that you feel so negatively towards Chapman University, as stated in your article, but Chapman is a great school, duh. While reading your article I thought to myself, What?! College students would never have drunken behavior and other such disorderly conduct, and everyone knows Chapman students are better than your average college student. So I have to disagree with you dear orange resident that we are not as terrible people as you think we are.
While many of us take pride in our school and community, you made sure to focus on the small minority who happen to act like Will Farrell in Old School. Thank you for extending such a warm welcome to us; I really felt the love when you mentioned, “ this is not your community, this is ours. . . we did not invite you.” You argue that “ [we] would not disturb the peace, fight, drive drunk, urinate, pass out and barf in neighborhood yards. . . if this was our gated community.” You may be right that the people who do act like such hooligans do not respect our city as much as the actual residents, but why assume these actions to be only of Chapman students, we are located right next to Orange High School so how can you say that these actions are only carried out by Chapman students? As for the comment saying that everyone lives in a gated community, how very stereotypical of you, but so is everything else in your article. It is unfair that you judge us based on how small minorities of students act, and I apologize for them but I wish that you could love our school and community as we do, cause Chapman is great!

  1. I totally agree with your opinion that the residents cannot unfairly dislike us. Just because we are college students does not mean that we are drunk and belligerent every day. I liked that you pointed out that Orange High School is also right here. We deserve to be here and worked hard to get into the school. I think that your tone is angry, upset or pissed off.

  2. Your tone sounds very sarcastic. Especially with your line about how college students would never behave in a drunken/disorderly manner. It definitely gets the point across.

  3. I think your tone is sarcastic and angry. When you said dear Orange resident, and thanks for the warm welcome, you can really hear the sarcasm.

  4. I think your tone is really ironic, and also angry. Just reading what you wrote you get the tone and how mad you are.

  5. Your tone makes me think your writing in a very sarcastic, slightly annoyed perspective.

  6. Ha! Love the irony and sarcasm. Just the first few sentences let the reader know that you're speaking out of the corner of your mouth -- not truly meaning what you say.

Good integration of the image, since it shows such a santized view of college students. Complements the prose nicely. However try to split up the paragraphs a bit more -- it's thick right now.

Nice: "I really felt the love when you said . . ." essentially that you hated us.
