It's the Undie Run!

You know, some would say that the students at Chapman have been a negative influence on the town of Orange, but I wonder, do they really mean that? I mean come on now, we all know that there's those students running around in their underwear at the undie run, but do you honestly think it's the end of the world? It's one night of fun celebration that's deserved after so much hard work! I don't think it's fair for you to look down upon students that you don't even know. Give us a chance. Last I checked, I wasn't running around being a drunk and I know for a fact that you did not wake up to my urine in your lawn or see "barf in neighborhood yards, driveways and porches." This isn't a zoo, this is our home too and we respect it.

Speaking of that topic, how can you possibly say that "this is not your community, this is ours." Why must you be so hostile? Why can't we happily co-exist like one big happy family? Besides, I'm pretty sure if all of us left, the tiny business that support your families would be gone pretty dang fast. We are a major contribution to the stimulation of the economy here. How's the summer? Slow, yea I thought so...it's because we're gone! So, just because you're upset that a few students get a little out of hand every now and then, wouldn’t you rather deal with that occasionally instead of being on the streets...I'd surely hope so.

The other thing that really confuses me, is why you moved here in the first place. If you didn't want to deal with college students then why would you even consider moving here? I mean it's kind of a no-brainer if you ask me. If you're looking for the cookie-cutter, green grass, family town, living a block away from a college campus is not a good idea. And you can hardly say you were here first. Chapman University has been around for about 150 years and you haven't hit half that age yet I'm sure. So, I completely understand that you get irritated but I think the best option for you would either be leaving or dealing. Hate to break it to ya the hard way, but that's life!

  5. This post sounds quite optimistic.

Despite all the problems, the author is taking a shiny view to them.

But then in the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs, the author starts to take on a darker tone. There it shifts into what the commenters have noticed -- more of a angry tone. Whatever the tone, you've achieved a kind of breezy, nonchalant tone that is certainly colloquial.

Obviously, telling your opponent to leave or deal with it is not the best rhetorical move, but to achieve this voice, I'm sure it was necessary.

However, it would have been nice to see a more original conception of complaints from the nearby owners, including noting whether things have gotten noticeably worse in the last few years.
